Male and Female Infertility

Infertility is a medical problem due to many causes. Around 30% of infertility is due to a female factor and 30% is due to a male factor.

Causes of Male Infertility

Doctors can be find causes, depending on medical tests. Causes of male infertility may include,

Low Sperm Count or Quality

General cause of male infertility is due to a issue in the sperm production process in the testes.

Problems Ejaculating

Blockages in the tubes leading sperm away from the testes to the penis can cause absence of sperm in the ejaculated semen.

Sexual Issues

Complications with sexual intercourse, such as ejaculation or erection problems, can also stop pairs from becoming pregnant. Sexual issues are not a main cause of infertility.

Causes of Female Infertility

Damage to Fallopian Tubes
It can prevent contact between the egg and sperm. Pelvic surgeries, pelvic infections and endometriosis may lead to scar formation and fallopian tube damage.

Hormonal Causes

Some women have issue with ovulation. Synchronized hormonal changes essential to the release of an egg from the ovary and the thickening of the endometrium in preparation for the fertilized egg do not occur. These problems may be detected using ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperature charts and blood tests to identify hormone levels.

Cervical Causes

Women may have a cervical condition in which the sperm cannot pass through the cervical canal. Whether due to unusual mucus production or a prior cervical surgical procedure, this problem may be treated with intrauterine inseminations.

Unexplained Infertility
The cause of infertility in around 20% of couples will not be identified using currently available methods of investigation.
